Subject: Love the foods & GUAVA question??
tracy-lee Hi- I am delighted with the Olli step 1 foods - my little one loves the butternut, sweet potatoe, pear and even guava!! The only down side is that he prefers it to my home made equivelant!!
He is almost 7 months, he is struggling with constipation since I stopped breast feeding a month ago, I am making prune puree myself, and have avoided giving him apple or bananna. He loves pear and the guava - although to me it is surprisingly tart!! I am however worried that it might be too acidic? So far he has not had any rash or anything but I have only given it to him twice. Has anybody had any issues with it being too acidic?
Olli founder Hi Tracy-lee.
The acidity of the fruits you are referring to is a natural acidity and generally babies do not respond negatively to it. Remember that the acidity in juices and other modified fruit is due to the processing method and the fact that this intensifies the acidity resulting in things like juices made from concentrate (95% of the juices in the SA market) have a MUCH higher acidity than the original fruit. If you are not seeing any negative reaction, I'd not worry about it at all.
As regards the constipation, you do not say what he is drinkinga nd I assume it is one of the formulas - I virtually guarantee that the constipation is from that. Unfortunately many of the ingredients in the conventional formulas often create a negative response in babies that have been breastfed. One of the things you can also try is a little weak rooibos or honeybush tea to assist with the constipation.

Good luck and kind regards

Leonard
