An uncomfortable mouth may cause your baby or toddler
to go off her food. Serve meals that are more liquid than
usual, like yoghurt, mashed banana, frozen fruit pureés,
frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit pulp, mashed avo, puréed
soup, and lentil and rice cooked long and slowly with lots
of seasoned water.
- Lots of hugs and cuddles for comfort.
- Use the art of distraction and amuse her with interesting
objects or sing her a song.
- Give her something to chew on, like dry, unsweetened rusks, un-sulphured
dried mango or apple rings.
- Give your baby something cold to chew or suck on - the corner
of a clean, damp face cloth, fresh from the fridge, works well.
- Gums are not only sore when baby is teething, they are also itchy.
- A low-grade fever sometimes accompanies a bad bout of teething, and
medicine can relieve the pain and bring down the temperature.
