weaning

  • Use breast milk or formula to dilute purées that seem too thick.
  • Introduce one food at a time for three days to detect a food intolerance.
  • Feed your baby with your finger if he rejects a spoon.
  • Try and sit as a family, relax and enjoy as your baby explores new textures and tastes.
  • Remember that introducing new foods into your baby's diet is a process of trial and error. A food she refuses today may become her favourite tomorrow.
  • Invest in a PVC 'splat mat' to catch the mess on the floor and allow baby to practice his technique with one spoon while you continue to feed him with another.

  • Save your baby's half-eaten food (bacteria in your baby's saliva will get into the food).
  • Use bottled mineral water in feeds (they are not always sterile and tend to have a high sodium content).
